Growth in living things

plants and animals grow in size day by day just like human beings. But they do not grow at the same rate.Plants continue too grow throughout their life, where as animals grow  for a certain period in their life.

Growth in living things

As the plants grow new leaves, branches ,buds, and flowers appears, when we cut a branch of a tree ,a new branch grows in its place.

Growth and development occur slowly in animals. If we cut any body part of the animal ,they do not generally grow them again. Only a few animals such as lizard, hydra and starfish can grow new parts of their bodies when they cut.
The capacity of certain animals to grow new body parts even after they are cut off is called the capacity of regeneration. If the body of a hydra is cut in to two halves, two new hydras grow from the two halves.
Growth in living things
some body parts of human beings continue to grow even after they are cut off, Nails and hair are examples for this. Thus we can say that some some body parts of human beings and animals show regeneration. But can the grow in living things be reversed ? No .can a grow up person become a body again? No .can a big tree become a small plant? no. These show that growth in living things is irreversible.
